How does zoning work in ducted air conditioning?
Zoning divides your home into areas, like bedrooms and living spaces, that can be conditioned separately. Motorised dampers in the ductwork open and close each zone from the controller, so you only run the rooms in use, which is the main way ducted running costs stay under control.
Is ducted air conditioning expensive to run?
Run with every zone open all day, it can be. Zoned sensibly, a modern reverse-cycle ducted system conditions the rooms you’re using and shuts off the rest, and inverter units throttle down once the home reaches temperature. Sizing and zoning at design time matter more than the badge on the unit.
Should I get ducted or split system air conditioning?
Ducted suits whole-home comfort with vents in every room and zoning to manage running costs. Splits suit conditioning one or two rooms at a lower upfront cost. Can you replace my old ducted system?
